Registered Nurse

living and serving in AMES
About nine years ago, I was searching for a way to give back to my community. A friend told me about a new clinic that was opening in Ames and was needing volunteer nurses. Since I am a nurse, and this would be an opportunity to share my faith, I decided to pursue this opportunity. Little did I know that this would forever change my life and bring personal healing and restoration from my past. Since then, God has used me to impact the lives of young women and men who have found themselves at a crossroad. In October, I began volunteering at the new Obria Medical Clinic. This is a wonderful way to get involved in our community and witness God transforming lives, bringing beauty out of ashes.

The story of

Leona Mae

Leona – Lioness of God

Mae – Great Mother

In late 2019, the Scarrow family found out they were growing by one. They were so excited to welcome another daughter to play with, learn with, and love. At 18 weeks, Mom Meryl’s water broke. She spent the next seven weeks at the University of Iowa Hospital until delivering and meeting their beautiful baby girl.

Leona Mae was held close by her family for two days before being held by Jesus. She is loved beyond measure. She is cherished beyond belief.

The Scarrow family shared their love by donating Leona Mae’s memorial money to Obria Medical Clinic of Ames. Their generosity funded critical updates to the Mobile Medical Unit, which will now be called “Leona Mae” in memory of this cherished little girl.

Love for Leona leaves a life-affirming legacy in our community.

Our mobile unit is medically equipped to offer STD tests and ultrasounds.

This unit serves multiple university and college campuses across Iowa.

The unit costs an estimated $350 to operate each day.
